Man faces manslaughter charges for shooting
A Sheridan man was arrested last week for shooting the brother of his fiancé following a month-long investigation into the Dec. 16 incident.
Mark Kenneth Fendall, 40, was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with manslaughter in the second degree and unlawful possession of a short barreled rifle. He was booked into the Yamhill County Jail on $175,000 bail.
The shooting took place shortly before 10 p.m. at the home of the victim’s sister. Pam Delmont and her preschool-age son were asleep when the altercation between her brother and fiancé began—reportedly as they were playing a video game called Call of Duty.
The fight awakened Delmont. She said she saw her brother “pulverizing” her finance, who is currently disabled. She then saw Fendall shoot her brother, Frank Anthony Delmont, in the abdomen.
When deputies and Oregon State Troopers arrived at the house at 140 S.W. Jefferson St., they found Fendall outside with Pam Delmont. Frank Delmont was inside the house.
Frank Delmont was transported by ambulance to the hospital in McMinnville where he later died.
An investigation by the Yamhill County Major Crimes Response Team began that night. It includes investigators from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, the McMinnville Police Department, the
Newberg-Dundee Police Department, the Yamhill Police Department and the District Attorney’s office.
Fendall is represented by McMinnville attorney Michael Finch. He is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial conference at 3 p.m. on Feb. 6.
Second-degree manslaughter is a class B felony subject to mandatory minimum sentences under Measure 11. If convicted of the crime, Fendall would be sentenced to a minimum of 75 months in prison.
