Check out Library’s free culture pass
Families can visit Aviation Museum, Gilbert Discovery Village with library pass
By Marguerite Alexander Correspondent, The Sun
When most people go to the library, they think about checking out books, magazines and DVDs, but now the Sheridan Public Library is offering something more—a cultural experience. Now patrons can go to the library and check out an adventure.
Library cardholders in good standing can now check out cultural passes which will provide free admission for a family of up to five members to the A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village in Salem or the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville. Or for a nominal fee they can purchase tickets for the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport of the Gallery Theater in McMinnville.
To qualify for the Culture Pass, borrowers must be 18 years of age or older, have a current library card, not have any overdue books or fines exceeding $5 and live in Sheridan, Willamina or Grand Ronde. A valid library card and identification will be required at checkout.
Each culture pass, which needs to be reserved in advance, is available for a 3-day checkout. Passes must be checked out and returned to the Sheridan library. Be sure to return the pass promptly to the front desk (no drop box) since a late charge of $5 per day and loss of library privileges applies to all passes returned after the due date.
Culture passes, which are intended to serve as an introduction to the destination of choice, can be checked out a maximum of two times each year per family.
The library is also offering tickets to the Gallery Theater and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. These tickets are one-time use only and do not need to be returned. The library is charging a small fee for the tickets—$3 for adults and $2 for children with a limit of four per family.
Many libraries across the county now offer culture passes although some libraries keep the program low-key. In Sheridan it is no secret. Penny Toepel, the interim library director, is anxious to get the word out to all library patrons in the West Valley that the Culture Pass to Adventure is now available.
Funding for the purchase of the tickets and culture passes has been made possible by donations to the Sheridan Public Library.
