New gift shop opens in Willamina

There’s a new tenant in the old Rocket Café on Main Street in Willamina.
Main Street Gift Shop, which just opened a few weeks ago, will offer gifts, consignment items made by local residents, and pet items.
Most recently Denise Dickey had her flower shop at that location and new business owner Sharon Crawley intends to continue to sell fresh flowers in addition to the other products.
Flowers bring people in, Crawley says, and when they see the gifts they shop.
“It’s a girly store,” she says, describing her stock. “I have collector’s plates, glass etchings, Zen gardens, some books, wallets, scarves, bath salts, potpourri, votive candles and smelly candles—I love smelly things.”
Also in stock are wall plaques and gift baskets of all kinds: bath baskets, holiday baskets, baby boy or baby girl baskets and teenagers’ go off to school baskets. She makes custom baskets and is also thinking of doing a Welcome to the Neighborhood basket.
Some items crafted by local residents include purses, lap quilts and queen bed quilts, dog beds, and paintings. She also has a lady bringing cat things. She stocks many of these items on consignment.
Consignment items just seem to walk into the store. As soon as she opened up, people came in to take a peek. When some mentioned they had items available for sale, as an experienced retail businesswoman and familiar with the many benefits of consignment sales, she offered to have them bring their things in.
Advantages of consignment sales are that prices can stay low for the buyers, while making a fair profit for her and the creators of the products. Some suppliers also fill special orders.
She and her husband, Mike, have lived in Grand Ronde about one and a half years, though she had lived in the West Valley earlier during several moves around the U.S. Since he’s semi-retired now, he’ll also be able to help at the shop.
The Main Street Gift Shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store is closed Sundays and Mondays.
