City cleanup set Sept. 14-15 in Willamina
Willamina residents will be able to get rid of their garbage for free as part of a town-wide cleanup Sept. 14-15.
The city council authorized the project last week after receiving donations of $200 from Grand Ronde resident Kathy Thole and $250 from the Willamina Economic Improvement District.
The money will help pay for giant garbage dumpsters in town for the two days.
Councilor Stanley Buck volunteered to spend the night with the dumpsters to make sure they are not vandalized or illegal garbage put in them. He said the city’s dump truck could be used to haul away tires. Residents will be asked to pay a fee for dumping tires.
The cleanup will exclude large appliances like refrigerators.
Councilor Rita Baller called the cleanup effort "a good start" in improving the town’s appearance.
