Speeder arrested, charged with 2X forgery 1

What started as a routine traffic stop for failure to obey the basic rule led to the arrest  of a Portland man on five charges including two counts of first-degree forgery.

In tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom

Willamina School District Summer Food Program starts June 17

For the sixteenth year, summer meals will be provided to children ages 1 to 18 at no charge by the Willamina School District Summer Food Program.

Willamina budget long on audit fees, short on reserves

The Willamina budget committee met last week to review what City Recorder Sue Hollis called a maintenance budget.

“Funds to support city operations will be extremely tight for the upcoming fiscal year and the proposed budget has been developed as strictly a maintenance budget,” Hollis said.

Three from the WHS Class of 2013 to receive top honors

The Willamina High School class of 2013 will graduate at 1 p.m. on Saturday, but three students will be especially honored. This year, the school named Nolan Smith as valedictorian and fellow students Trevor Hunt and Daisy Hernandez as joint salutatorians.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Smith said, of his valedictorian status.

School district adopts maintenance budget

Although it is still somewhat unclear how much money Oregon school districts will be working with next year, Willamina’s budget committee approved a conservative budget for next year.

The budget that the district is working with should be described as a maintenance budget, said Willamina Superintendent Gus Forster.

Voters will be asked to approve Willamina school bond on Nov. 5

After several meetings and creating a solid list of priorities, the Willamina School Board has decided to put its proposed bond on the ballot for the November 2013 election.

Although the bond rate has not been set, the board  is determined to keep it under $5 million or $1 for every $1000 of assessed property value.
